During our Jan Brett author study we came across a story with a geiser. Our class decided to make some of our own. We began with four diffrent bottles of diet soda and four packs of Mentos. Our guiding question was, "which one will make the biggest explosion." The kids made predictions in their science journals and then had to wait 4 DAYS because of the rain to conduct the investgation. We discovered that the geisers wemt in order from Sunkist, Cherry 7Up, 7Up, and Diet Coke with the greatest explosion. How could we tell? In addition to actually watching the height of each explosion we measured the remaining soda that was left inside the bottle! The bottles with the least soda left had to have gone the highest because it lost the most liquid! The best part of this entire progect, other than the sheer joy of 5 year old excitement, was that the kids figured this out ON THEIR OWN!
